Bradley & Hubbard Black
Cast Iron Labrador Retriever Saint Bernard Dog Nutcracker For consideration is this
vintage black cast iron nutcracker in the form of a dog. Even after studying
silhouette images of both the Labrador Retriever and Saint Bernard, I am unable
to make a definitive determination of which breed this nutcracker is! This dog
shaped cast iron nutcracker measures 5¼ inches tall, 9½ inches from nose to
tail and the base measures 7¼ inches long by 4¾ inches wide. When you lift up
on the tail lever the mouth opens up to insert the nut for cracking. This is marked
on the underside of the tail with “24H”. The patina is natural and it is in excellent vintage
condition with no nicks, chips, cracks or rust. Buyer will receive FREE
shipping. Thank you for looking! NOTE: The Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing
Company (1852–1940) was formed in Meriden, Connecticut, and over the years
produced Art Brass tables, call bells, candlestick holders, clocks, match
safes, lamps, architectural grilles, railings, etc. Overall the company
patented 238 designs and mechanical devices. "By the 1890s, the Bradley
and Hubbard name was synonymous with high quality and artistic merit,"
said Richard E. Stamm for the Smithsonian Institution, which has an extensive
collection of Bradley and Hubbard manufactured design objects in its
collection. In 1940, the business was sold to the Charles Parker Company.
