Royal Lion Head & Snake Antique Door Knocker Cast Iron

A reproduction of the French emblems-a lion representing Louis Philippe I, the last King of the French, who ascended the throne in 1830 under the sign of Leo, and the snake depicted as the many-headed serpent-symbolizing enlightenment and the approval of the people and political change. The artist of Toscano's version of this elegant door knocker sculpted the lion with a thick mane framing his proud countenance in tufts and curls.
